Examples

Prototypes

From asking the people around us we discovered that they thought the original prototypes were either too cluttered or didnt show enough information. So in this prototype we improved upon previous iterations so that the screen for the most part would have minimal information but also enough to highlight what needs to be seen. Every screen will link back to the home menu for an easily traversable app. This is show in a small house icon in the top left. This means that to go from the contact screen immediately to the location screen you need to go to the home screen from the contact menu to then be able to access the location tab. We decided to link all of the different screens this way as it is shown to work well in many mobile apps and is easy to understand while also not cluttering the screen with unnecessary icons to take away from the important information that needs to be shown. Sketch prototype

This is another rough sketch idea of how some aspects of the app could work be displayed on a phone screen. The first sketch shows what the user would see while creating a profile, it asks for the name password etc. The second sketch shows a screen that would display all the areas that the user would like to keep track of in regards to the amount of emergencies and incidents, this is to prevent the user from receiving information on locations that the user has no interest in and to help pinpoint locations that the user may find are more important to them personally. The third sketch shows how the map would work and explains how the user can see in detail exactly where and when the emergency happened or was reported in their chosen area.

Emergency App Example

While looking at various different emergency apps I came across one where the user can report any emergencies they may witness or go through and I thought that some of these features might be useful in our own emergency App.

Initial Prototypes

The original plans were very rough, and displayed in rough sketches.        However, these plans assisted in the final prototypes that I ended up coming up with. Home page: It displays the immediately important information and the most recent and important measures taken by local government. There would be a red bar at the top displaying the most important of the most important information. The example, for Covid-19 this could be how long the dates of the lock-down will be continuing until. Beneath the text there would be news articles from credible from credible sources about the crisis. Map and Statistics page: Provides information about the amount of people in need of assitance globally due to the pandemic. Provides lists of deaths and injuries and also provides clear graphs and statistics on those affected. Research For Covid-19 Warning Website

  Examples of warning apps currently used Earthquake apps Used in Japan and earthquake sensitive areas of America (California especially) Send active alarm/notification to your phone when nearby seismographs pick up high vibrations in the earth.  They also give you a history of earthquakes in the area that you’re in and gives you informational resources for better preparation.  Weather warning  Notify you in real time when there are hurricanes, tornados, tsunamis, floods, storms or wildfires in your area, and evacuation plans for the natural disasters. Some include one-touch “I am safe” buttons,which sends an alert to a person in your contacts. Research

The use of the words ‘ public warning system’ in the brief denotes the use of a final purpose system. According to ScienceDirect, public warning systems should alert and inform all citizens that are threatened by a hazard with the final purpose of enabling them to prepare and to act in a timely manner to reduce the impact of the hazard . This implies that the systems applied for public warning must alert the targeted population, but also provide them sufficient information in an understandable manner. According to Oxford Dictionary, an emergency is a serious, unexpected, and often dangerous situation requiring immediate action. Oxford dictionary also defines disaster as ‘a sudden event, such as an accident or a natural catastrophe, that causes great damage or loss of life’ and has varied synonyms including catastrophe and calamity.
